Graslan Team Gives Back to Local Communities

Creation date: 20 April 2020

The FMC Graslan Aerial Service team have donated over $10,000 to grassroots charity Sisters of the North to aid the rural community in north-west Queensland.

“Our team have worked in the Southern Gulf Region for several years and personally know many of the grazing families who were impacted by the 2019 floods,” said Cassia Ferguson, FMC Graslan Business Manager.

“In the past few years our customers in northern Queensland have experienced extended drought followed by a devastating flood,” she said. “Our team were deeply affected by the images of devastation and wanted to assist those on the land who need a helping hand while also supporting the communities they live and work in.”

The Graslan team chose Sisters of the North (SOTN), a charity started by a group of local women who set out to assist flood impacted individuals and families of the six flood affected shires of Flinders, Richmond, Winton, McKinlay, Cloncurry and Carpentaria.

“By donating to SOTN we know the money is benefitting rural people and that funds will also be spent in local businesses,” said Ms Ferguson. “It really appealed to us that they distribute money to recipients to spend on the day-to-day things we all need but usually do without when money gets tight.”

From fencing supplies to school shoes, a haircut or even a counter meal at the local pub with mates, SOTN uses LiveVoucher to provide for the little things in life that also go towards helping a community recover financially and emotionally.

“The SOTN model stimulates the local small business economy and in turn contributes to the survival of the local communities in which our customers and field team live and work,” said Ms Ferguson.

“Donations came from our field team in north-west Queensland – Graham Fossett, Tim O’Brien, Stu and Meg Leahy, Matt Ahern and Howard Tompkins – with FMC matching the funds contributed by the team.”
