General Instructions

Fungicide Resistance Warning

For fungicide resistance management Ospray CAPTAN WG Fungicide is a Group Y fungicide. Some naturally occurring individual fungi resistant to CAPTAN WG and other Group Y fungicides may exist through normal genetic variability in any fungal population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the fungal population if these fungicides are used repeatedly. These resistant fungi will not be controlled by CAPTAN WG or other Group Y fungicides, thus resulting in a reduction in efficacy and possible yield loss. Since the occurrence of resistant fungi is difficult to detect prior to use, Ospray Pty. Ltd. accepts no liability for any losses that may result from the failure of CAPTAN WG to control resistant fungi.

CAPTAN WG mixes readily with water and should not be pre-mixed. Slowly add the required amount of product to the water under agitation in the spray vat. Maintain agitation throughout spraying. After a stoppage, thoroughly re-mix before recommencing spraying.

Mixtures of CAPTAN WG with commonly used wettable powders and suspension concentrate insecticides and fungicides should not cause any problems. Apart from the products listed below mixtures with emulsifi able concentrates are not recommended. If tank mixes are to be used observe all directions, precautions and limitations on all products to be used. Caution should also be exercised when spraying any mixtures on varieties of fruit trees or vines where there has been no previous experience of mixtures with CAPTAN WG.

CAPTAN WG Fungicide is compatible with any one of the following products: Anvil, Bayfi dan, Topaz, Penncap-M, Gusathion 200SC with or without calcium nitrate, Bugmaster Flowable, Confidor, Hymal, Insegar, Kumulus, Lebaycid, Cyren, Mavrik Aquaflow, Omite 300WG (apples only), Pirimicarb WG, Pyranica, Danadim, Sanmite, Systhane.

A mixture of CAPTAN WG with more than one of these products or with any other product may be ineffective or may cause serious damage. The use of such a mixture is not recommended without prior advice, and would therefore be entirely at the user's risk. If other mixtures or 3 way mixtures of any of these products are being considered consult your Ospray dealer or representative for advice. Mixtures of CAPTAN WG with Cyren® 500EC or Nimrod may leave an oily residue on the inside of spray vats which may be difficult to remove. CAPTAN WG should not be combined with Bordeaux mixture, spray lime, lime sulphur or oils. Do not apply CAPTAN WG in combination with or within 14 days before or after winter or summer oil sprays. Combinations of CAPTAN WG and sulphur should not be used on crops sensitive to sulphur.

CAPTAN WG mixed with Folidol M500 may be phytotoxic to many varieties of apples and pears. If it is necessary to use both CAPTAN WG and Parashoot 500 EC in a spray program, sprays of these products must be at least 7 days apart. On pears tank mixtures of CAPTAN WG plus Omite 300WG and CAPTAN WG and Gusathion (without calcium nitrate) plus Omite 300WG have been found to be phytotoxic. Do not tank mix these products, for use on pears. Caution should be taken when applying chemical mixtures to all crops. Varieties within crop groups may react differently therefore a small area should be tested prior to application to crop.

Ground application - these rates are for high volume spraying to point of run-off.

DO NOT apply by aircraft.

Dilute Spraying

  • Use a sprayer designed to apply high volumes of water up to the point of runoff and matched to the crop being sprayed.
  • Set up and operate the sprayer to achieve even coverage throughout the crop canopy. Apply suffi cient water to cover the crop to the point of run-off. Avoid excessive run-off.
  • The required water volume may be determined by applying different test volumes, using different settings on the sprayer, from industry guidelines or expert advice.
  • Add the amount of product specifi ed in the Directions for Use table for each 100 L of water. Spray to the point of run-off.
  • The required dilute spray volume will change and the sprayer set up and operation may also need to be changed, as the crop grows.

Concentrate Spraying

  • Use a sprayer designed and set up for concentrate spraying (that is a sprayer which applies water volumes less than those required to reach the point of run-off) and matched to the crop being sprayed.
  • Set up and operate the sprayer to achieve even coverage throughout the crop canopy using your chosen water volume.
  • Determine an appropriate dilute spray volume (see Dilute Spraying above) for the crop canopy. This is needed to calculate the concentrate mixing rate.
  • The mixing rate for concentrate spraying can then be calculated in the following way.

Example only

1. Dilute spray volume as determined above: For example 1000 L/ha

2. Your chosen concentrate spray volume: For example 500L/ha

3. The concentration factor in this example is : 2 X (i.e. 1000 L / 500 L = 2)

4. If the dilute label rate is 125 g/100 L, then the concentrate rate becomes 2 x 125, that is 250 g/100 L of concentrate spray.

- The chosen spray volume, amount of product per 100 L of water, and the sprayer set up and operation may need to be changed as the crop grows.

- Do not use at a concentration rate higher than that specifi ed in the Critical Comments as crop safety has not been assessed.

- For further information on concentrate spraying, users are advised to consult relevant industry guidelines, undertake appropriate competency training and follow industry Best Practices.

Protection of wildlife, fish, crustaceans and environment

Dangerous to fi sh. DO NOT apply directly to water.

DO NOT apply under meteorological conditions or from spraying equipment which could be expected to cause spray to drift onto water, or to areas where surface water is present.

DO NOT contaminate surface water with the concentrated product, spray mix, rinsate, drainage water from glasshouses or the used containers.

Safety Directions

Harmful if inhaled or swallowed. Will damage eyes. May irritate the skin, nose and throat. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. If product in eyes, wash out immediately with water. Do not inhale dust or spray mist. When preparing spray and using the prepared spray, wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist, a washable hat, elbow-length rubber gloves and face shield or goggles. Repeated exposure may cause allergic disorders. Sensitive workers should use protective clothing. Wash hands after use. After each day's use, wash gloves and contaminated clothing.

Store in the closed, original container in a dry, cool, well-ventilated area out of direct sunlight. Store in a locked room or place away from children, animals, food, feedstuffs, seed and fertilisers. Avoid preparation of excess spray, but if necessary, spray out excess mixed spray or dispose of in a soil pit which does not drain into waterways or ponds. Degradation of excess material may be hastened by making solutions alkaline with lime or washing soda. Shake empty bag into spray tank.

Do not dispose of undiluted chemicals on site. Puncture or shred and bury empty containers in a local authority landfill. If no landfill is available, bury the containers below 500 mm in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots. Empty containers and product should not be burnt.

Re-entry Period

Strawberries: Do not allow entry to treated areas for 24 hours. When prior entry is necessary wear cotton overall buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), shoes, plus socks, protective eyewear and chemical resistant gloves. Clothing must be laundered after each day's use.

Apples, pears, stone fruit and grapes: Do not allow entry into treated areas for 7 days. When prior entry is necessary wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), shoes plus socks, protective eyewear and chemical resistant gloves. Clothes must be laundered after each day's use.

Turf, seedlings and roses: Do not allow entry to treated areas until spray has dried. When prior entry is necessary wear cotton overall buttoned to the neck and wrist (or equivalent clothing), shoes, plus socks, protective eyewear and chemical resistant gloves. Clothing must be laundered after each day's use.
