General Instructions

Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide is a suspension concentrate (flowable) fungicide for use as a seed treatment to control various fungal diseases of seeds and as a drench to control fungal diseases of turf.

Inoculation of Seed

This product does not adversely affect germination if used as directed; however, when rhizobial inoculants are also applied to seed, the viability of the inoculum may be reduced. Inoculum can be applied to the seed in a separate operation after seed treatment. Apply the inoculum on the day of sowing after the fungicide treatment has dried on the seed. Sow into a moist seedbed as soon as possible after treatment. If seed is sown into a dry seedbed, then fungicidal seed treatment can cause a reduction in nodulation. Alternatively, inoculum can be sprayed into the furrow at seeding rather than combined on seed treated with this product. This method of applying inoculum is not recommended in Western Australia.

Mixing & Application

Turf should be in good nutritional condition prior to treatment to prevent damage to sensitive turf species (e.g. fescues, bluegrass and turf type ryegrass).

Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide may be applied to seed undiluted or may be mixed with water if required to achieve optimum coverage of seed. This requirement will depend on the equipment in use and the rates to be applied. Use only equipment designed to apply suspension concentrate or slurry seed treatments to seed. As the product can dry out on exposed internal container surfaces under hot summer conditions resulting in the frormation of flakes, it should be filtered before use. Do not let liquid dry out in application equipment as flakes can block filters and limit the flow to spray nozzles. Equipment used for applying this product can be cleaned out with water. Shake the container before adding water to the product. After adding the required amount of water to the product, shake again. Where the diluted product has been permitted to stand for an extended period, then the mixture should again be agitated well.

Handle seed carefully after application and avoid excess wetting to prevent damage to the seed coat.

Sowing

Check seed flow through the drill after treatment as treated seed can flow more slowly.

Storage of Treated Seed

If seed is not used immediately after treatment, it should be stored in a dry, well ventilated place. Although Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide has no effect on the viability of treated seed, subsequent germination can be adversely affected by poor storage conditions such as high moisture combined with high temperatures. No liability can therefore be accepted for performance of stored treated seed. Treated seed should not be held over from one sowing season for sowing in subsequent seasons.

Resistance Warning

Fungicide Resistance Warning

GROUP M3 FUNGICIDE

For fungicide resistance management, Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide is a Group M3 fungicide. Some naturally occurring individual fungi resistant to Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide and other Group M3 fungicides may exist through normal genetic variability in any fungal population. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the fungal population if these fungicides are used repeatedly. These resistant fungi will not be controlled by Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide or other Group M3 fungicides, thus resulting in a reduction in efficacy and possible yield loss.

Since the occurrence of resistant fungi is difficult to detect prior to use, Chemtura Australia Pty Ltd accepts no liability for any losses that may result from the failure of Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide to control resistant fungi.

Protection of Livestock

Seed treated with Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide must not be used for animal or human consumption. It is important that any treated seed not used for sowing, is destroyed. Bags that have held treated seed should not be used for any other purpose. DO NOT allow seed treated with Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide to contaminate grain intended for animal or human consumption. When treated seed is stored, it should be left apart from untreated grain and the bags (or other containers) should be clearly marked to indicate the contents have been treated with Thiraflo Flowable Fungicide.

DO NOT feed or otherwise expose treated seed to domestic animals or birds.

Protection of wildlife, fish, crustaceans and environment

DO NOT feed or otherwise expose treated seed to wild anaimals and birds. Dangerous to fish.

DO NOT contaminate streams, rivers or waterways and drains with this product or used containers/bags that have held treated seed.

Restraints

DO NOT mix this product in a slurry with rhizobial inoculants. Only treat good quality sound seed as treatment of mechanically damaged or poor quality seed may result in reduced germination and/or reduced seedling vigour and emergence.

Safety Directions

May irritate the eyes, nose, throat and skin. Repeated exposure may cause allergic disorders. Avoid contact with eys and skin. Do not inhale spray mist. When opening the container, preparing the product and using the prepared product wear cotton overalls buttoned to the neck and wrist, elbow length rubber gloves, face shield or goggles. If product on skin, immediately wash area with soap and water. If product in eyes wash it out immediately with water.

Wash hands after use.  After each day's use wash gloves, face shield or goggles and contaminated clothing.

Storage

Store in the closed original container in a well-ventilated area, as cool as possible. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight.

Disposal

Triple or preferably, pressure rinse containers before disposal. Add rinsings to spray tank. DO NOT dispose of undiluted chemicals on-site. If recycling, replace cap and return clean containers to recycler or designated collection point. If not recycling, break, crush, or puncture and bury empty containers in a local authority landfill. If no landfill is available, bury the container below 500mm in a disposal pit specifically marked and set up for this purpose clear of waterways, desirable vegetation and tree roots. Empty containers and product should not be burnt.
