FMC welcomes new commercial team members

Emphasising its position as a top tier Ag Chem supplier in Australia and New Zealand, FMC is striving to deliver on the promise of its strong technology pipeline by enhancing the capabilities of its Commercial team with the appointment of a new Head of Marketing and a Technical Extension team.


As of May 6, FMC Australasia is delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Van Der Hoven as FMC Head of Marketing ANZ. Chris joins FMC with decades of experience in R&D, Marketing, and Commercial roles within the crop protection industry. His career spans several global organisations and multiple continents with an impressive, highly collaborative leadership background across commercial and strategic planning, business development, and strategy.


Chris brings to FMC broad technical and marketing expertise, serving 15 years with Sumitomo as Marketing Manager and most recently as Commercial Manager.


FMC ANZ Country Head Kristina Hermanson said, “FMC is pleased to welcome Chris at this crucial point in time when we prepare for the launch of our new pre-emergent herbicide and develop our presence as a leading R&D AgChem company.  Beyond his technical and marketing expertise, Chris’ results-oriented track record and collaborative approach is extremely valued in our team.”


Chris holds a Master of Science (Agricultural Entomology) from University of Pretoria and a Master of Business Administration (Strategic Marketing) from University of New England (AU).


Under the leadership of Chris Van Der Hoven is two Marketing Associates and a newly appointed Herbicides Product Manager and Strategic Product Manager.


With over 10 years’ experience in the Ag industry and over 7 years’ experience as an Area Business Manager based in Wagga Wagga, Hugh Palmer joined FMC in 2015 as part of the acquisition and integration of Cheminova. During this time, he has developed comprehensive knowledge of FMC’s herbicide portfolio, especially pre-emergence crop herbicides, through his work with Rustler herbicide. More recently he has taken the sales lead with FMC’s rice herbicide products (Magister, Aura, Basagran M60and Gator H20). Within his new role as Herbicide Portfolio Manager and the in-depth knowledge of the portfolio Hugh obtains, he will be instrumental in the new herbicide commercialisation.


Working alongside Hugh in a Strategic Product Manager role is Angus Wilson. With over 20 years’ experience in the Ag industry, Angus brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the FMC team. Joining in 2017 following the acquisition and integration of DuPont in which he spent 5 years as an Area Business Manager, Angus has developed comprehensive knowledge of the insecticide portfolio and has earned remarkable respect with stakeholders. In his new role as Strategic Product Manager Angus will continue to focus on the FMC insecticide portfolio, alongside a focus on business intelligence and strategy. 


Ensuring FMC delivers on the promise of our technology pipeline, George Saville, FMC Head of Sales ANZ is pleased to announce the appointment of four Technical Extension Specialists to complement FMC’s existing R&D and Commercial team.


“Expert technical and agronomic support of our pipeline products will be critical to the success of the business,” said George.


Stephen Pettenon, Consulting Technical Extension Specialist based in Western Australia, brings more than 30 years of experience in agronomic science and technology to his position, and will provide technical support to the development, launch and sales ramp up of FMC pipeline products and line extensions in Western Australia and South Australia. 


Stephen holds a B Ag Sc (Plant Pathology) from Latrobe University and has spent the last 13 years working as a private research and development consultant for crop protection businesses in Western Australia. FMC is very fortunate to have retained the services of such a competent and highly respected professional to lead technical extension for FMC in WA and SA.


In addition to Stephen’s appointment, FMC welcomes Sam Ottaway to the team in the role of Technical Extension Specialist in Victoria, Southern NSW and Tasmania. Graduating with a Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences from La Trobe University in 2017, Sam brings 6 years of experience in crop agronomy and agronomic science to his position. Most recently Sam has been working as a research & development agronomist in Victoria.


Dr David Johnson, in addition to serving as Spray Oils Specialist for FMC, will join the team as Technical Extension Specialist in Northern NSW and Queensland.  In this role David will be accountable for providing technical support to the development, launch and sales ramp up of FMC pipeline products and line extensions. Graduating from the University of Queensland with a PhD in 1991, David brings 22 years of experience in crop agronomy and agronomic science to his positions.


John Tilley, with more than 30 years’ experience in sales, crop agronomy and agronomic science, will take on the role as Technical Extension Specialist, Central New South Wales. In addition to his newly announced Technical Extension Specialist role, John will continue to provide Technical Extension Specialist support to a number of other projects including Technical Complaints Handling processes and Field Trial Samples coordination.


George Saville, FMC Head of Sales ANZ, said “I’m genuinely excited to welcome the Technical Extension Team to FMC.  We are very fortunate to have such a capable and talented team to provide technical support to the development, launch and commercial ramp up of FMC’s pipeline products. They've already hit the ground running, working on a comprehensive field trial and demonstration programme with our new pre-emergent cross-spectrum herbicide in cereals, canola and winter pulses.”  


The FMC Commercial team plays an integral part of FMC’s future success and the newly aligned team will improve how FMC operate and continue to service customers as seamlessly as possible, providing another step towards making FMC the market leading R&D based Ag Chem supplier in Australia and New Zealand.
